Difference between Bi-Fold and Sliding Doors

Clear View are door specialists, and can help design, manufacture, and install aluminium bi-folding doors and sliding doors, amongst many other high quality products. Both bi-folding and sliding doors are excellent options if you are looking to bring more light into your commercial or domestic property. Not only are these products exceptionally stylish, they also have a multi-point hook locking system, meaning they provide a combination of style and security.

This combination of style and security make Clear View’s bi-folding and sliding doors extremely desirable. However, at Clear View we understand that at times it can be difficult to decide which product would be the best for your property, that where our team of helpful door specialists come in.

The design and layout of your property will be the main decider in choosing the most suitable door. Both bi-folding and sliding doors are popular because they take up less space than traditional doors. However bi-folding doors are multi-folding and fold inwards to create an opening of up to 90% as oppose to patio or French doors which only provide around a 40% opening. Sliding doors open with their sliding mechanism and also have a very large doorway opening to the outside.

In addition, sliding doors do not require as much framework as bi-folding doors, and they do not require any space on either side of the door. This makes sliding doors ideal for smaller, more limited spaces. Sliding doors can also be constructed up to a height of 3 metres, meaning they can replace a wall nicely, whilst bi-folding doors can function like a removable wall.

However, both sliding and bi-folding doors hold similar advantages in that they unite the outside with the inside living space, creating the illusion of more space through bringing in more natural light. This not only gives the impression of a bigger and brighter property, it also reduces the need for artificial light which could reduce your electricity bills.

Whichever door you choose, Clear View will provide you with a variety of styles and colours so that the design suits the features of your property. All Clear view doors are made using the highest quality materials which are durable, secure and require little maintenance.
