Sliding doors offer high level of energy efficiency

Since the millennium, more and more people have started to worry about the impact they have on the environment and as a result have looked into ways of reducing their energy usage. Since then, the buzz word in society has been energy efficiency, so much so that doors and windows now have to offer great levels of energy efficiency.

With many manufacturers working hard to provide this for clients, and customers, there are some options which are now regarded as highly energy efficient, with the aluminium sliding door one of the best available on the market.

As a rule, the more glass on show determines how energy efficient it can be, and with sliding doors able to have panels that are 3m in height and almost 2m in width, these are large amounts of uninterrupted glass for which sunlight can be trapped providing warmth in the winter and cooler temperatures in the summer. Although other things to consider include the direction of the house, as a rule of thumb, if your glass panels are of a large size, heat retention will be better than smaller panels.

Heat retention is better when there is less metal so a PVC option of sliding door would actually be better than an aluminium option, however that lacks in terms of security. Aluminium’s benefit is however fourfold; you can get a perfect fit via cutting, it expands and contracts less, there is scope and flexibility and it has a much higher popularity rate due to its aesthetic qualities.

With double glazing also developing over time too, with special resins used inside the glass structure making it a much more toughened shell, even more energy efficiency can be achieved at the benefit financially of homeowners who have them fitted to their home. With differencing glass structures too, this can be enhanced by choosing a more energy efficient range.
