Despite the recent snow, it does appear that spring really is just around the corner now with the sun shining throughout Yorkshire this week. With this in mind it is time to give the house and garage a spring clean, ready for the year ahead. We recommend doing the following in your home:
- Work in sections from top to bottom
It’s important to work in a logical ordered way when cleaning. Start at the top of your house and work down – this way you will not be dragging old items over cleaned areas as you work through the building. Work on clear sections at a time rather than starting every room at once to keep piles manageable and keep track of what is being disposed of or kept.
- Make sure you have the right equipment for the clean
As well as organising which area you are going to tackle and when, it is important to make sure you have the right equipment before you begin. As a minimum you should have bin bags, a vacuum cleaner, a mop/bucket/detergent, household and surface cleaners, bleach, glass cleaner and plenty of cloths.
- Be realistic
Carrying out a thorough spring clean takes time. Rather than try to get through it all in one day, set aside several smaller chunks of time to get different sections of the house done. This will mean that you will tackle each area with greater enthusiasm than if they were done in one lot. It also makes it easier to discard items a few at a time and to contain mess to specific areas.
