Summer Patio Design Ideas

Summer is the season we all re-discover our home’s outside space and strive to make the most of it whilst the sun lasts. Patios are a great extension to a home, one of the best aspects of them is that they can be tailored to suit any home. Whether you want to create a separate outdoor space for socialising, or create an area that seamlessly connects the inside and outside of your home, here are a few patio design ideas and some inspiration to help get you started:

Minimalist

It is often believed that simple is best. Contemporary patio furniture with clean geometric lines and neutral colours will create a modern appearance. Using colours such as whites, greys, mint and ocean blues will keep that cool villa feeling in the summer, and is an ideal design for those looking for a place to socialise with minimal clutter.

Rustic

If you are looking for more traditional, “Mediterranean-esque” design ideas, then using warm earthy tones and wooden furniture is a great way to achieve this. Outdoor sofas and cushions are the perfect choice for taking the soft feel of your interior to the outdoor surroundings whilst maintaining the same level of comfort and homeliness. Candles and fairy lights will also be a great touch for those darker evenings.

Vintage

Using white antique furniture is a great way to add character to a garden and create a vintage feel. Accessorising the patio with flower pots will not only make your garden look full and layered, it will also infuse colour, add texture, and create a romantic ambiance. Designing a vintage patio area, means that furniture doesn’t really have to match, making it a good opportunity for you to really use your creativity.

Each patio area is as individual as the homeowner. But to get started try looking at what you will use your patio for, your personal taste, budget and the practicalities of it are all useful in beginning the planning process, to ensure the patio area is perfect for you and your home.
