Taking care of those windows

Clearview have been manufacturing and installing aluminium doors and windows, for a number of years across the North of England.

One of the many services we also provide however is in care and maintenance. Taking care of your new windows and the frames can help make them look good, as well as preventing problems caused by stones or from other outside elements.

Cleaning the frames can be done very easily with some warm water and some mild detergent. Using a soft sponge, just wipe over any marks and they should come off easily. If you do this regularly, then the frames will stay in pristine condition. Do not use any solvents on the aluminium window frames because this will damage them.

Depending on where the windows and frames that need to be cleaned are in terms of location, can depend on how often then need to be cleaned. An easy reference guide to follow for cleaning we have created is:

a. Normal Environment: Clean and check every 12 months

b. Marine Environment: Clean and check every 3 months

c. Industrial Environment: Clean and check every 3 months

d. Industrial & Marine Environment: Clean and check every 3 months

e. Swimming & Leisure Pools: Clean and check every 6 months

The category to which your home or business falls into will be dependent upon a number of factors:

a. geographical location

b. environmental surroundings (industrial, swimming pools; marine etc)

c. levels of atmospheric pollution

d. prevailing wind

e. protection of the building by other buildings

f. if there are environmental changes during lifetime (i.e., rural areas becoming industrial etc).

To clean the sliding tracks, which if left to get grimey can prevent the door from opening properly, you just need to look down and use a small brush to flick out the stones and remove the dust. These should be cleaned more often than the frames as stones a debris can ruin the doors smooth operation.

Using a vacuum cleaner is also another good way of cleaning out the runners and prevents a large build up of dust forming.

Another area where you need to be careful when cleaning is the locking mechanism, it does need a dust and a lubrication to the turning lock every three months, but never force open the lock to clean it. Any damage done during the cleaning process, by forcing, will not be covered.

If you require professional cleaning services, Clearview can also come out and assist your needs. Contact us today on 0800 1357167 to discuss your maintenance concerns.
