What to Look For in a Patio Door

There is a good amount to consider when choosing a new patio door. Thankfully, Clear View have been supplying, manufacturing and installing patio doors in the Yorkshire area for over 10 years. In this time we have learned a few things which can help you choose the perfect door for you.

1.      Consider material carefully. You’d be surprised how much the frame materiel can affect the ‘feel’ of the home. UPVC is well suited to more modern home, and timber to more traditional homes. However aluminium works with both. Its modern appearance works well with new home but also has an interesting juxtaposition with older homes.

2.       Space plays a huge role. The space in front of, and surrounding, your door may limit what styles of doors you can and can’t have. You may want French doors, but if there is simply not the room for them to open then you may struggle, the same applies with bi-folding doors.

3.       Think about safety. Windows are typically the weakest point of any home, and there are those that consider patio doors to be in the middle ground between windows and doors. Some people still remember the reputation that patio doors garnered in the 90’s. However technology has sufficiently improved since then, and patio doors are as safe as a regular door.

4.       Thermal efficiency. Large panes of glass are typically not very efficient, and windows can be the place in the home that loses the most heat. Thankfully all of our windows achieve an A rating in the BFRC rating system, and we can even provide energy efficient glazing for the energy conscious.

By speaking to our in-house creative design team we are sure to find you the perfect set of doors for your home. This will include the above and any aesthetic requirements you may have.
